Looking for Wolves before Midnight
Project type
Photographic Series
Date
31/12/2024
Location
Aosta
This series establishes a duality between wolves and humans. It begins with wolf tracks in the wilderness, leading the observer into a symbolic “cave” where another kind of trail appears—human traces left on a table…and as the narrative progresses, the defining characteristics of humanity emerge: the use of tools, the capacity for abstract thought (the Tombola), the role as a predator (two young humans are eating from the same cup), and the ability to feel complex emotions.
The final image is emblematic, capturing the last moments of the year (the whole shooting was done on dec 31st 2024). It evokes a reflection on our planet’s history, where humanity emerges as a dominant force in the closing minutes of the metaphorical clock. Displayed on a hyper-technological object—a smartphone—the time becomes a symbol of our modern existence and its detachment from the natural world.
Will the end of the year symbolize the end of an era? Can humanity save itself from its own predatory behaviors? And, ultimately, will life endure in the face of human impact, our impact? The series leaves these questions open, urging the observer to think about the delicate balance between survival and destruction.
